Saskatchewan Obituary File
Contains 750,000 obituaries, the majority from 1986 onward. The file contains some earlier records, including some from the late 1800's. The collection is far from being complete but now cover most areas of Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan Cemetery Index
Over 500,000 individual names for more than 2,284 of over 3,357 cemeteries and farm burials are now a part of this ongoing collection.

Saskatchewan Residents' Index (SRI)
Data base of 2.6 million Saskatchewan residents found in local histories, Cummins maps, voters' lists, cemeteries and yearbooks. The SRI is constantly being updated.

Family Histories and Saskatchewan Local Histories
The books we have in these two collections have been donated to the SGS by the authors, members or local history book committees. Should you wish to donate a book to this collection we can issue an income-tax receipt for the value of the book. These books can be borrowed by SGS members.

Genealogy Reference Books
These books would help you to start your genealogy, help you to organize it effectively, define terminology, or choose a computer program. Basic reference sources are available for most provinces in Canada and other countries throughout the world.

Canada and All The Provinces
The SGS has information on basic sources for records in all the provinces but has extensive collections for New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec. These include historical atlases, census, church, cemetery and newspaper records as well as periodicals from other genealogical societies.

  • Index to Vital Statistics for Ontario: 1869-1908 for Births, 1869-1923 for Marriages and 1869-1933 for Deaths. (microfilm)
  • Ontario Marriage Registers 1858 - 1869. There are some earlier ones and some later ones included. (microfilm)
  • Ontario Cemetery Records (Series 1 - 10) on 75 microfilm. Many of these are also available in paper copy in the library.
  • Wesleyan Methodist Baptismal Register Master Index (microfiche).
  • Upper & Lower Canada Marriage Bonds. (microfilm)
  • Quebec Loiselle Marriage Index. (microfiche) These are all donated.
  • Repertoires des actes de bapteme mariage sepulture et des recensements du quebec ancien 1700's, 47 volumes. (books)
  • Loyalist records for Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes. (books)
  • Index to vital Statistics for British Columbia. 1872-1926 for marriages; 1872-1981 for deaths; 1872-1901 births. (microfiche)

United States
Reference books on sources in the United States including census reel numbers, military records and passenger arrivals. Many periodicals from throughout the United States.

Great Britain
The books in this area range from gazetteers, maps, how-to-books and reference material about each country and its individual counties or shires. Of particular note are:

  • Index to Births, Marriages and Deaths from England and Wales 1837 - 1894, 1900, 1901, 1912 - 1914. (microfilm and microfiche)
  • Index to the Old Parochial Registers in Scotland for some shires. These are Presbyterian Church records before 1855. (microfiche)
  • Griffith Valuations and Householders Index for Ireland 1845 - 1867. (microfiche)
  • Index to the Irish Spinning Wheel Records 1796. (microfiche)
  • 6 inch to the mile Ordnance Maps for Ireland 1833-1846. (microfiche)
  • Assorted church and census records. (microfilm and microfiche)
  • Index to 1881 Census for England and Wales. (microfiche)

Europe
In addition to the how-to-books, the SGS has a number of gazetteers, maps and reference books for Germany, Poland and eastern Europe. There are smaller collections for other countries.

International Genealogical Index (IGI) 1992
A index of some 187 million names for christenings, births and marriages of deceased individuals throughout the world. Most of these records cover the period from 1550 - 1875. (microfiche)

Family History Library Catalogue 1997
A listing of what records the Family History Library in Salt Lake City has for countries throughout the world. Individuals are able to order these through the Family History Library nearest them or view them at the Library in Salt Lake City.
