INTRODUCTION

The Obituary Index is for the RCMP QUARTERLY commencing with Volume 1, No. 1, July 1933 up to and including Volume 54, No. 4, October 1989. The index covers those persons who died and for which obituaries were published in the aforementioned publication. Just because a persons name doesn't appear in the index, doesn't mean that the person did not serve in either the North West Mounted Police, Royal North West Mounted Police or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It may be that no one advised THE QUARTERLY. Persons are then urged to contact:

The Commissioner

Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Att: Historical Section

Canada

The obituaries are on file in the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society Library, 110 - 1514  11th Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan.  There is a $3.00 charge to receive a copy of an obituary plus a self-addressed stamped envelope.  Please use Order Form when sending request.

The index is printed in alphabetical order using surnames first, followed by their given names/initials and followed by nicknames in ()'s.

The next column is the Regimental Number of the person. There were times when some people had more than one number in their service. I have tried to use the first number given them. Numbers preceded by an "O" indicates an Officer number. An "R" indicates a Reserve Constable. An "S" indicates a Special Constable. An "M" indicates a Marine Member; a "C" a Civilian Member.

The next column gives the rank the person held when the took their discharge from the Force or the rank they held when they died while serving in the Force.

The next two columns list the Volume and Issue number of the RCMP QUARTERLY where the obituary can be found. A listing of the Volume and Issue numbers corresponding with the month and year in which the quarterly was published appears on pages vi & vii.
