“Your Family History: Finding and Assembling the Pieces”

 SGS 2018 Conference Highlights

The Saskatoon Branch is hosting the SGS 2018 conference April 20-22, 2018 at the Park Town Hotel in Saskatoon. Pre-conference tours will be offered on Friday April 20 with the conference running from 7:00 PM Friday to 12:00 Noon Sunday.  Within that short time, there will be five plenary sessions, five small group sessions (with 3-4 choices at each time), and the SGS AGM.   Of course, in addition to attending exciting sessions, participants will be able to visit various displays and vendors, win all types of prizes, and network with colleagues and friends – and maybe even find a few new ‘cousins’!  It will be a busy and worthwhile weekend for genealogists of all levels of experience and with many different family history ‘puzzles’ to put together!

Are you just beginning to search for your ancestors, or having trouble finding some of the ‘pieces’ of your family history?  We have sessions on using the internet, Google and Facebook, resources at the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan, digital and microfilm newspapers, gazetteers, cemeteries, and DNA.

Do you need ideas for organizing, analyzing or interpreting the pieces you have found?  Sessions on how to ‘prove’ you have the ‘right’ person, or using technology, spreadsheets, online family trees or genealogy software, may be helpful.

Are you wondering why or how to put the ‘puzzle’ together into a family history?  Although family trees are useful visual representations of our ancestry, preparing a written family history can be a lasting legacy! Our first and final speakers will discuss this topic.

The ‘SGS 2018 Conference Program At-A-Glance’ on the next page outlines the conference schedule.  Check out our website or Facebook page for more session and speaker information.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to the conference.   We will also be looking for volunteers to assist at the conference by introducing speakers, taking tickets, helping with registration, and other jobs.  More info in early 2018!  Feel free to contact us with any questions at the Conference email address below.
