The Saskatchewan Genealogical Society (SGS) offers training courses at various times throughout the year that lead to one of the three certification designations described below.

Saskatchewan Record Searcher Certification Course

This certification qualifies you to conduct a search of the basic Saskatchewan sources, to write a documented research report and conduct your business in an ethical manner.


Saskatchewan Researcher Certification Course

This certification qualifies you to analyze genealogical research problems, to conduct research in all records sources in Saskatchewan, write well documented research reports and conduct your business in an ethical manner.


Instructors Certification Course

This certification qualifies you to teach basic genealogical methodology that includes: using forms, home sources, developing research plans, analyzing data and the use of the Internet and CD-ROM’s for genealogy and using ethical and professional standards.


Indigenous Researcher Certification Course

This course will focus on tracing Métis and Indigenous ancestry on the Prairie Provinces. Emphasis is placed on learning the need for using the Code of Ethics, Genealogical Standards and Standards of Evidence, analyzing research problems, developing a research plan and reporting the results. This will be an online course that is divided into ten sections. Research assignments are part of the questions for each section. All questions can be searched online but the expectation is that recommendations will be made for what further research is required in libraries and archives
