The Saskatchewan Genealogical Society (SGS) is pleased to announce a new cemetery initiative – the Saskatchewan Cemetery Care and Maintenance Program (SCCMP). The Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice has provided one-time funding support for the administration of this pilot project.
The Saskatchewan Cemetery Care and Maintenance Program will provide matching funds to approved applicants wishing to restore, care and maintain abandoned and/or neglected cemeteries. The program is administered by the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society. The SGS will provide a central co-ordination location to receive and approve applications, as well as donations and gifts in kind for the care and maintenance of the neglected and abandoned cemeteries.
The SGS will administer monies to the designated cemeteries, as well as provide guidance to individuals and groups in respect of locating the required assistance to make physical repairs to the cemeteries. See the Program Guidelines link for more detailed information.
The SGS wishes to thank the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice for their support in the launching of this pilot project.
